OUR COMPANY:

We are a children’s residential care home provider based in Northampton. We offer an excellent therapeutic service for up to five children who are aged 10 to 18. We are currently seeking a Deputy Manager with Mental Health background to join our team – someone who genuinely enjoy the rewards and challenges of working with children and young people.

THE ROLE:

As a Deputy Manager, you will be required to provide direct care and support to the children and young people living in the home. You will promote and participate in activities, encourage choice and new opportunities for the children and young people. The role will require you to actively participate in the running and management of the home. You will need to communicate and liaise effectively with the manager, your co-workers, other professionals, and the young people. The role will also require you to carry out general administration duties to assist with the running of the home and sometimes to deputise in the absence of the manager.

Applicants will be required to work on a rota basis, including some weekends, undertake some sleep-in duties and may occasionally be required to go on holiday with the children and young people.

All successful candidates must undergo an enhanced DBS clearance check before beginning work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing direct care and support of children and young people, using therapeutic principles and attachment-aware practice.
  • Promoting and participating in activities for all children and young people.
  • Helping manage and run the home.
  • Offering advice, direct work and mentoring to individual children & young people, as well as staff members.
  • Assisting with general administration duties.
  • Providing support to the young people.
  • Deputising in the absence of the manager.

THE CANDIDATE:

The candidate will have either professional experience working with children in some capacity or have appropriate qualifications along with an understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people in general, as well as experience of working in (or helping manager) a care home. You will want to work with children and young people using attachment-aware and trauma-informed approaches. You will possess excellent communication skills have a positive attitude and a compassionate, empathic and caring manner. Although not essential, a full driving licence would be highly advantageous. You will need to be flexible to work shifts and to sleep-in.

KEY EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL FOR THE ROLE:

  • Professional experience working with children or qualifications in appropriate disciplines.
  • An understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Experience working with young people with Mental Health issues
  • Experience and/or desire to work using attachment-aware and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work shifts and sleep in.
  • Two years experience in a supervisory/management capacity.
